Common Septic Repair Scopes We Handle
From drainfields and tanks to line replacement and aerobic unit troubleshooting, these are the repair scopes we most commonly handle across southwest Missouri.
Drainfield Repair
Drainfield problems are the most common septic repair we see. Symptoms include slow drains, wet spots in the yard, sewage odors, or effluent surfacing above the drainfield area. Repair options range from clearing clogged distribution lines to replacing damaged trench sections to relocating the drainfield entirely if the original area is exhausted.
A failing drainfield that needs full replacement is closer to a new system install — the scope and cost are determined after the site walk.
Tank Repair and Replacement
Concrete tank issues include cracked lids or risers, damaged inlet/outlet baffles, failed seal between tank sections, and crushed or shifted tanks from above-ground loads.
Most tank issues are repairable in place. Full tank replacement is a bigger job — the right call depends on the damage and the tank’s overall condition.
Riser Installation
Older septic tanks often have lids buried 1–3 feet below grade, making access for pumping or inspection a major dig. Installing risers brings the access opening to ground level. We install concrete or polyethylene risers with secure lids.
Riser installation is one of the smaller, faster repairs we handle.
Distribution Box Repair
The distribution box (d-box) splits flow from the tank into multiple drainfield lines. When the d-box settles, cracks, or gets root intrusion, flow distribution gets uneven and drainfield failure follows.
Distribution box replacement is a quick repair compared to drainfield or tank work.
Line Repair and Replacement
Inlet lines (house to tank) and outlet lines (tank to d-box) can fail from root intrusion, settlement, or freeze damage. Most line replacements are straightforward trench-and-replace work.
Line repair scope depends on length, depth, and access conditions.
Aerobic Treatment Unit Service
For homes with existing advanced (aerobic) systems — air pump replacement, control panel issues, alarm troubleshooting, mechanical repair on the treatment unit. Annual service contracts available.
Aerobic system service is highly variable — diagnosis comes first, then a quote for the specific repair.
Warning Signs Your System Needs Attention
If you’re seeing any of these, the next step is a site visit so we can diagnose what’s actually happening.
Common symptoms and what they may mean
Slow drains throughout the house
Tank may be full or inlet line clogged
Sewage odor inside the house
Vent issue or failing inlet
Wet spot in the yard near drainfield
Drainfield saturation or failure
Lush green grass in a small area
Effluent reaching surface — drainfield problem
Sewage backing up into the house
Tank or line blockage; possible drainfield failure
Gurgling sounds in drains
Vent issue or partial blockage
Higher water bill / well pump cycling
Possible line leak
Alarm light or buzzer (aerobic systems)
Pump or control issue — check immediately
Emergency Response
For systems that are actively failing — sewage in the basement, effluent surfacing in the yard, or system alarms — call us as soon as possible. We don’t promise same-day response on every call, but we’ll triage urgency and get to active failures as fast as we can.

Repair vs. Replace: When to Choose Which
We will tell you straight whether the right next step is repair or full replacement. Better to know up front than spend money on a short-lived band-aid.
Usually Worth Repairing
- Cracked tank components or risers
- Single failed line or section
- Failed distribution box
- Clogged inlet from the house
- Pump or control issues on aerobic systems
Usually Worth Full Replacement
- Drainfield is fully saturated and effluent is surfacing
- Tank is cracked below the waterline
- System is 30+ years old and failing in multiple places
- System was undersized for the house from the start
- County health department orders replacement after a failed inspection
If the underlying problem is system age or undersizing, we’ll tell you straight that repair is a band-aid and walk you through the replacement option.
Pumping, Inspection, and Perc Tests
A few clarifications on what we don’t directly handle:
- Septic pumping — we work with local septic pumping companies and can refer you. Pumping is typically required every 3–5 years.
- Routine inspections — handled by certified inspectors. We can refer.
- Soil evaluation / perc tests — handled by certified soil evaluators or the county health department. We coordinate but don’t perform.
We focus on install and repair because doing them well requires equipment, experience, and DHSS registration. Pumping and inspection are different services best handled by specialists.

Septic Repair FAQ
Common questions homeowners ask when they are trying to decide whether a septic issue is repairable, urgent, or pointing toward full replacement.
What kinds of septic repairs do you handle?
We handle drainfield repairs, tank repairs, riser installs, d-box work, line replacement, and repair scopes on existing conventional or advanced systems.
What are the most common warning signs of a failing system?
Slow drains, sewage odor, wet spots near the drainfield, lush green patches over one area, sewage backup, gurgling drains, or an aerobic alarm all mean the system needs attention.
When is it better to replace instead of repair?
Replacement is usually the better option when the drainfield is fully saturated, the tank is cracked below the waterline, the system is failing in multiple places, or the county orders a replacement after inspection.
What does septic repair usually cost?
Repairs range from quick fixes (a riser, a distribution box) to larger work that approaches the scope of a new install. Call (417) 719-0643 for a free diagnostic site walk.
Do you handle septic pumping or routine inspections?
No. We can refer local pumping companies and certified inspectors, but our focus is installation and repair. We also coordinate soil evaluations when needed, though we do not perform perc tests ourselves.
Can you help with aerobic system issues?
Yes. We work on existing advanced or aerobic systems for repair scopes such as pump issues, alarms, control problems, and related mechanical repairs.
Are you registered and insured?
